3rd annual conference for preparation
MCALLEN TEXAS – Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department, City of McAllen, Hidalgo County Emergency Management, and Texas Department of Management (TDEM) hosted this year’s South Texas Hurricane Conference at the McAllen Convention Center. This two day event focused on building resilient regional communities by providing educational tools for future use. With six session tracks available, attendees had a variety of options to choose from. Public health/hospitals, emergency response, law enforcement, educational institutions, faith based/non-profit and COOP Continuity of Operations were presented in a seminar schedule beforehand.
STHC began with opening ceremonies from the Honor Guard as the National Anthem was presented. Invocation was delivered by Mayor Darling from the City of McAllen. Hidalgo County Emergency Manager, Ricardo Saldaña and Chief Administrator Officer Eduardo Olivarez were speakers during the ceremony.
After the morning ceremony, the exhibit hall was open for viewing. Vendors from various organizations were available to distribute information and products. Hidalgo County Precinct 4 was on site as an exhibitor to present ongoing and future projects in the making. On display, the rendering of the San Carlos Community Resource Center was placed for the attending public to see. Safety Coordinator Jose A. Segovia, Parks Director Jaime Guerra and Director of Construction Reginio Salinas were present to answer any questions or doubts.
